“Objects have been performing under the whip of subjects too long and are now disobedient; they can’t be counted on any longer.” – Peter Schumann
Welcome to Carnival of Objects
Carnival of Objects creates unique and atmospheric performance experiences that explore the potential of the puppetry medium through marrying a range of artistic disciplines. Sculpted puppets, masks, hand-drawn art and sound interact to evoke darkly comical, surreal worlds, in which the bizarre and the poignant meet amidst a carnival of strange visual imagery and beautiful live music.
Founded in 2012 by Nicola Baylis, Carnival of Objects is a collaboration of artists from Dorset. Supported by Arts Council England and Arts Bournemouth, their work has been specially commissioned for Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival and selected for a London premiere at Little Angel Theatre.
Influences include the work of: Faulty Optic, Improbable Theatre, Peter Schumann’s Bread and Puppet Theatre, Japanese Bunraku puppetry and Commedia dell’Arte.
